Lo-tel's Historical Inspiration
Lo-tel's lead singer and songwriter Luke Hanigan cites classic albums by the likes of David Bowie and The Beach Boys as major influences during the recording of the band's second CD, "The Lost Thing".
When it came to writing and recording their new album "The Lost Thing", Sydney band Lo-tel took a step back in time drawing inspiration from some of the most respected veteran's of contemporary music. Artists like David Bowie, Billy Joel, Cheap Trick and most importantly The Beach Boys inspired the music on their latest release.

"I spent all of the 90s constantly trying to find great new music," explained lead singer and songwriter Luke Hanigan to Sydney's Drum Media. "I just couldn't deal with anything that was less than 15 minutes old. Then somebody gave me a copy of the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" and I went, 'Oh my God, all these bands that I love so much are really referencing this one record. I was kind of shocked."

"The other thing I did was I started buying Greatest Hits packages because as a songwriter I was trying to figure out why some songs connect instantly. There's David Bowie's stuff, like 'Ashes To Ashes' to me, you plug straight into that song. I started studying greatest hits packages like textbooks because I'm a bit like that with music anyway. I love that side of music, figuring out what makes other artists tick."

Lo-tel's album "The Lost Thing" and single "Angel" are both available in stores now. Catch Lo-tel live when they support John Mayer on his Australian tour next month and stay tuned for more news on upcoming live appearances soon.
