Jennifer Hudson Wins Oscar For Dreamgirls; "Dreamettes" Give Performance Of The Night
Jennifer Hudson scooped up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 79th Academy awards last night in LA, making a clean trifecta of gongs for her portrayal of 'Effie White' in the Golden Globe-winning film 'Dreamgirls'. "Dreamettes" and co-stars Beyonce and Anoki Noni Rose then took then stage alongside Hudson to perform tunes, including the Oscar-nominated Best Song 'Listen'.
Last night at the 79th Academy Awards, Jennifer Hudson's dreams really did come true when she picked up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of spurned Dreamettes singer Effie White in the Golden Globe-winning film 'Dreamgirls'.

Completely overwhelmed, the former 'American Idol' contestant (who has already picked up a Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award for the role) explained how her vocally talented grandmother had been instrumental to her success.

"(She) Never really wanted to go professional, she said you have to sing and work when you don't want to. She just wanted to sing and work for the Lord. My theory is I have the voice. Had she went professional, I wouldn't exist. It was my duty and my goal and my dream to be able to do this for her because I felt she had a voice that should have been heard by the world," said Jennifer.

'Dreamgirls' also picked up the award for Achievements In Sound Mixing, and at the conclusion of the ceremony, the crowd was treated to an unforgettable performance of the music by her co-stars The Dreamettes, which was directed by 'Dreamgirls' director/writer Bill Condon.

First up, looking ravishing in a dark red dress, Hudson performed the stunning tune 'Love You I Do' solo before fellow castmate Beyonce joined her on stage for the Oscar-nominated tune 'Listen' followed by third Dreamette Anika Noni Rose and country singer Keith Robinson who shared the spotlight in the tune 'Patience'.

Congrats Jennifer!
